The Prince of Wales Will Participate in UN Climate Conference in South America
Prince William will represent the COP30 climate summit in South America in the coming weeks, as confirmed by royal officials.
Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception ahead of the environmental conference, which is set to be held in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.
Father and son were in attendance at the museum gathering, marking an noteworthy combined presence at a environmental conference preliminary meeting arranged together with the UK government.
Environmental Advocacy Commitment
The King has been a longstanding advocate of biodiversity preservation - and Prince William has inherited the mission, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be hosted in Rio ahead of the climate conference.
Palace insiders have portrayed Prince William's attendance at the next COP as taking on an important role in "environmental negotiations".
Previous Activities
The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the state Bentley, were introduced to guests including environmentalists, scientists, environmental activists, foreign representatives and politicians.
This participation involved presentations in concert with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other global statesmen at the Marine Economy Conference in the Principality of Monaco in recent months.
Environmental Prize Connection
The UN meeting will dovetail with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in Rio de Janeiro the day before he joins the COP summit on 6 November.
Last week the prince characterized the prize competitors as "modern-day pioneers".
Royal Climate Legacy
King Charles has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, delivering the inaugural speech in the United Arab Emirates for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the statement: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".
"I have spent a substantial portion of my life trying to warn of the survival risks confronting humanity over climate change, environmental shifts and biodiversity loss," the monarch informed delegates.
