The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been ousted from office after failing a no-confidence vote that came after his disputed social media posts about the conservative activist.

The motion against the student leader reached the necessary super-majority to remove him from office, according to an statement from the organization.

Disputed Comments

The dispute erupted after the student reportedly shared messages on social media that appeared to celebrate the killing of Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead while speaking at a college in Utah.

According to reports, one Instagram post reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an extended form of the phrase 'lol'.

The student leader is also said to have posted in a messaging group with other members seeming to welcome the incident.

Election Results

The vote of confidence took place over the weekend, with results revealed on Tuesday.

Official notices showed that over twelve hundred votes were cast in favor of removal, while just over five hundred were against the motion.

The notice stated that the president-elect was considered to have stepped down in following the society's regulations.

Procedural Disputes

Voting operations were informally suspended early on the previous day after the returning officer was allegedly subjected to "obstruction, intimidation, and unwarranted hostility" from several representatives.

In a statement, Mr Abaraonye claimed that the count had been halted because election administrators believed "no valid outcome could be reached as a result of procedural failures".

His statement categorically refuted that any representative appointed by the student had participated in intimidating or disruptive behavior.

Ongoing Dispute

The president-elect stated that significant concerns had been submitted to the disciplinary committee and that he continued as the elected leader.

His comment added that George was "proud and thankful to have the backing of significantly more than half of students at Oxford" who supported a "secure voting process and resist attempts to subvert democracy".

Critics have said that any failure to remove him would "demonstrate internationally that the Oxford Union has prioritized politics over principles".

External Responses

On recently, Mikey McCoy read out an open letter to the Oxford Union on a related program podcast.

The letter criticized the society of becoming a institution where "presidents of the union publicly celebrate the killing of a ideological rival".

The statement warned that if Mr Abaraonye were to remain in post, supporters would "directly reach out to every U.S. political figure who has ever spoken at the society and advise them against future participation".

The Oxford Union had previously condemned Mr Abaraonye's comments after the activist's killing and confirmed that concerns submitted about him had been referred for official review.

The student leader had been one of multiple members to debate with Kirk at the union in spring.
