NFL Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
During a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Performance Seals Contest
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had possession with a chance to drive for a possible winning score. However Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," Glenn stated after the game.
