Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when a pair of track officials darted across the track directly in front of him

The dangerous situation occurred on the third circuit when marshals were spotted on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his damaged front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was seeing"

"I exited on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somehow but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a live track safety personnel can be authorized to just dash across the track in such a way. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, is currently investigating the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the FIA

"During the third lap, safety personnel were informed and placed on standby to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch officials were rescinded and a safety warning flag was shown in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired after that point"
